Do people who think differently threaten you?
Are the political advocates who push a personal agenda your enemies?
Perhaps it’s the people who talk trash on social media.
Maybe it’s friends and family who make your life miserable.
It’s easy to get caught up in believing the world is out to get us.
Deceit Is Everywhere
The faces, beliefs, and lies of those we distrust are plastered on every social media platform and blared across the airwaves.
Poor choices made by influential people impact life as we know it.
Yet! God is sovereign.
Scripture reveals a different threat.
A threat flying low under the radar is causing havoc.
Threats we don’t always see, yet they are present everywhere.
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12 ESV).
Confusion, Anger, and Accusations Abound
These “rulers, authorities, cosmic powers, and spiritual forces of evil” are all under the rule of Satan. He disguises his activity in this world with confusion, accusations, anger, and frustration.
When I realized my “enemy” wasn’t a neighbor, a politician, or someone who thought differently than me, my life changed forever. Forgiveness came easier.
Discovering the backstory of those I didn’t understand became a habit.
Loving others more and judging them less became a daily consideration.
God makes a way where there seems to be no way.
Understanding that my true threat was already defeated at the Cross when Christ rose, thus defeating death and making a way to eternity in His presence for all of us, I stopped struggling, and victory was claimed.
How about you? What are you wrestling with?
Disapproval. Dissatisfaction. Disappointment.
Ask yourself, is my disapproval, disappointment, or dissatisfaction pointed at a person… or the unseen enemy?
Remember, our struggle is not against flesh and blood. The battle is won, our destiny is secured, and we will survive—this side of glory or beyond.
Let’s journey together.
Abba, help me see the real threat and who and what it is. Open my heart to hear Your voice and walk confidently in Your way. Guide me to love, forgive, and learn more about those around me. And remind me to pray, pray, pray, for Your will be done. Hallelujah.
Do not merely listen to the word and so deceive yourselves, do what it says. James 1:22
